The key themes of Dr. Kolupaieva’s academic work are the development of conceptual foundations for inclusive education, its theoretical and methodological rationale and strategies for its implementation in Ukraine.
She participated in the design of National Curricula for children with special educational needs, related syllabi and teaching and learning materials, and the criteria for the assessment of their learning achievements, drawing on her extensive experience of teaching at school and university level.
Dr. Kolupaieva is one of the authors of a theoretical review and experimental research of inclusive education in Ukraine, the first of its kind in the country. Under her guidance the pedagogy of inclusive education was established as a new and topical area in the Ukrainian pedagogical science. Dr. Kolupaieva received several important research grants, e.g. from the University of Alberta and the Grant MacEwan University (Canada). As a leading authority in her field, she tutors many post-graduate and PhD students writing and defending dissertations on present-day issues related to the education of persons with special needs.
Dr. Kolupaieva was one of the leaders in the international multi-institutional CIDA project intended to reform the system of special education services in Ukraine and introduce inclusive education for children with special needs. She has provided expert advice in research projects in Ukraine. The results of her academic work were presented at international conferences in the USA, Canada, Holland, Estonia, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, etc.
She is the founder and senior editor of the methodological series ‘Inkluzyvna osvita’ [Inclusive Education], senior editor of the academic digest ‘Logopedychnyi visnyk’ [Speech Therapy Newsletter], and the science editor of the magazine ‘Defektolohiia. Osoblyva dytyna: navchannya i vykhovannya’ [Special Education. Exceptional Child: Teaching and Learning]. Her over 140 academic texts include monographs, textbooks, syllabi, research papers and teaching guides.
